A yarn house, not a brand

Three generations, one dye pot.

01

Traced to the farm

Every Purl yarn is traced to a single farm — Shetland croft, Donegal spinning mill, Peruvian highland co-op, New Zealand Merino station. Same farm, same spinner, year after year.

02

Hand-dyed in Brooklyn

86 plant-based colors dyed in 4-gallon batches in our Brooklyn studio. Indigo from Oaxaca, madder from Turkey, weld from our own garden. No two skeins are identical.

03

Honest about the price

We pay the farmer first, then the spinner, then the dyer. What’s left covers the studio, the boxes, and the post. We’ll show you the math if you ask.

What 24,000 makers say.

★★★★★
"Heritage Worsted is the only wool I buy now. It blocks beautifully, wears like iron, and the natural cream is exactly the color of my grandmother’s afghan."

★★★★★
"The Sage DK Cotton is the softest cotton I’ve worked with. The plant-dye has a depth of color that no synthetic dye can match. I bought 12 skeins in June."

★★★★★
"I gave the Beginner Knit Kit to my niece. She’s 19, never held needles before, and finished a scarf in two weekends. The patterns are clear, the yarn is forgiving."
