◆ The sofa

Built to outlast the trend
that brought you in.

The Aspen is our flagship sofa, and the piece we hope defines Hearth & Home. It's been in continuous production since 2012, refined four times, and built by the same 6-person team in our North Carolina workshop for the last 12 years.

The frame is solid white oak, kiln-dried, mortise-and-tenon joined, and corner-blocked. The suspension is 8-way hand-tied — the gold-standard spring system, made by knotting each spring to the next in 8 directions and then to the frame. The cushion fill is a down-wrapped high-resilience foam (50/50), which means you get the sink of down with the recovery of foam.

The leather is full-grain aniline, sourced from a single tannery in Italy that's been family-run for 4 generations. It will patina, scratch, and develop character over the years. That's the point.

◆ How it's made

From tree to living room,
in 8 weeks.

Week 1. Frame is cut, joined, and corner-blocked. Oak comes from FSC-certified Appalachian mills, kiln-dried 6 months before use.

Week 2-3. Springs are hand-tied (takes 8 hours per sofa). Cushions are cut and wrapped.

Week 4-5. Frame is upholstered. Leather is hand-cut, hand-sewn, and hand-stretched over the frame.

Week 6. Final assembly. Cushions are filled, legs are attached, piece is inspected.

Week 7-8. White-glove delivery to your home. 2-person crew carries it in, sets it up, removes all packaging.

◆ Honest materials, traceable to source

Every part has a story.

We believe you should know where every material comes from. So we document it — mill certs, tannery origin, foam density — and you can request the full chain-of-custody for any piece you buy.

White oak frame, FSC-certified

Sourced from sustainably-managed Appalachian forests (West Virginia, Pennsylvania). Kiln-dried 6 months before use. Janka hardness 1,360 lbf — one of the hardest domestic woods. Will outlast every other part of the sofa.

Full-grain aniline leather

Sourced from a single family-run tannery in Tuscany, Italy. 4 generations old. No pigment, no correction, no splitting — just transparent aniline dye that lets the natural grain show. Will patina over 5-10 years into a deeper, richer color.

8-way hand-tied springs

Each spring is hand-knotted to the next in 8 directions using Italian twine, then knotted to the frame. 280 springs per sofa. The same system used in $10,000+ heirloom-quality furniture. Will retain its support for 30+ years.

Down-wrapped HR foam cushions

High-resilience 2.5 lb foam core (won't bottom out for 10+ years), wrapped in a 50/50 down-feather blend. Removable, reversible. We sell replacement cushion cores if you ever need them.

◆ Care

Made to live with,
not to be precious about.

Daily. Nothing. Real leather is meant to be used. Don't baby it.

Weekly. Wipe down with a dry microfiber cloth. That's it.

Monthly. Vacuum the cushions and crevices with an upholstery attachment.

Yearly. Apply a leather conditioner (we recommend Chamberlain's Leather Milk) once a year to keep the leather supple. We include a free bottle with every purchase.

Spills. Blot immediately with a clean dry cloth. Don't rub. For oil-based stains, leave them alone — they'll patina into the leather naturally. For water-based stains, blot with a damp cloth.

Avoid. Direct sunlight for prolonged periods (will fade). Sharp objects (will scratch). Harsh chemicals (will strip the finish).

◆ Warranty

10 years on the frame.
Forever on the springs.

Frame — 10 years. We warranty the hardwood frame against breakage, warping, or joint failure. If anything goes wrong with the frame in the first 10 years, we repair or replace at no cost.

Springs — Lifetime. The 8-way hand-tied springs are warranted for the life of the sofa. If a spring fails, we'll restring it in your home (or replace the sofa if necessary).

Cushion cores — 5 years. We warranty against excessive softening (more than ½" compression). Replacement cores are available for purchase after the warranty period.

Leather — 5 years. We warranty against peeling, cracking, or delamination. Surface scratches and patina are normal and not covered.

Filing a claim. Email warranty@hearthandhome.com with photos and your order number. We respond within 24 hours and ship repair parts within 5 business days.

After 6 years, still looks new.

We have an 8-year-old, a dog, and a coffee habit. Six years in, the leather has aged into the most beautiful patina — scratches, water rings from forgotten cups, all part of the look now. Cushions still spring back. Frame is rock solid. We've replaced the leather conditioner twice. Worth every penny and then some.

Heirloom-quality construction.

I'm a furniture maker by trade, so I had high expectations. The frame is genuinely solid — no plywood, no MDF, just hardwood mortise-and-tenon. The 8-way springs are tied correctly (I checked). The leather is the real thing. My grandfather was a furniture maker in NC for 40 years and he'd be proud of this piece.

Bought a second one 3 years later.

After living with the first Aspen for 3 years, we bought a second for the family room. The craftsmanship is consistent. The leather has aged beautifully. Customer service was incredible when I called to ask about adding a matching chair. They picked up on the second ring.
